Licensing

The Licensing Act (2003) came into effect on 24th November 2005, and made significant and long term changes to the licensed retail sector.

Crellins Carter are licensing law specialists operating throughout the country, providing tailored and extensive advice on UK licensing laws and procedures. We act for shops, public houses, restaurants, cafes, live music venues, hotels, golf clubs, theatres and community centres. With a wealth of knowledge and experience in the leisure and hospitality sector, we can provide legal advice with regard to:

  • Applications for premises licences.
  • Applications for variations or transfers of premises licences.
  • Pavement licences for tables and chairs.
  • Licences for playing music in public.
  • Advice on contents of operating schedules.
  • Change to designated premises supervisor.
  • Negotiations with responsible authorities.
  • Advocacy at Licensing Authority hearings.
  • Advocacy at Magistrates' Court appeals.
We offer our clients a full and comprehensive range of services from submitting an application for a licence to defending prosecutions. We can help by representing clients at licence application hearings, reviews and appeals against licensing decisions and we can write agreements for the use of land to host events such as concerts, festivals or fetes.

We aim to ensure that your business runs legally and with the minimum of interruption from the licensing process. We take pride in the efficiency of our work and the need to be both imaginative and pragmatic.
