London Olympics 2012

ARE YOU READY TO GO TO THE LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS?

Surveys have shown that only a small percentage of hospitality professionals have prepared themselves for the impact the 2012 London Olympics will have on their business, this is despite 50 per cent of those asked believing the games will have a significant effect on the bottom line of their organisation.

Millions of visitors are expected to descend on London throughout the course of the Games and with tickets not as easy to come by as first thought, events such as the Olympic Road Cycling, which starts in Surrey and goes through Weybridge, will attract a number of spectators keen to line the streets and be a part of the atmosphere.

Demand for accommodation and entertainment venues will increase significantly and those in the leisure industry will need to ensure that they are prepared. This will require reviewing every aspect of income generation of their business, particularly income generated by the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Traditionally, alcohol sales have increased during major sporting events and leisure operators need to ensure that their business operates within the strict parameters of the Licensing Act 2003.

Operators will need to consider a number of factors, from venue capacity, whether patrons are able to consume alcohol in designated areas outside of the premises (including whether a pavement licence will be required to facilitate this) and if the hours allocated to the sale and consumption of alcohol are sufficient. Additionally, premises will need to be licensed to show sporting events (even though these will be televised). Those who have not ensured that such areas of the Licensing Act have been complied with, could find their Olympic dreams in tatters.

With our wealth of leisure expertise and knowledge of Greater and Central London, Crellins Carter are able to assist you in reviewing your premises licence and advise you as to the requirements and processes involved in varying your alcohol licence.
